Kathans in the US and Canada who are descended from Captain John Kathan, who first came to Putney,VT in 1752 from the Worcester,MA area. He had come from England in 1729 to Boston with his wife,Martha Moore, and child, Alexander, who was born on the ship, and lived in Roxbury, MA first and then moved to Worcester. We believe he had a Scottish and/or Northern Irish heritage. He was the first settler of Dummerston and then Putney, VT.
